ETS partners with Express Rail Link to bring Ipoh closer to KLIA

ETS-KLIA & ETS-LCCT now available for purchase at Ipoh Station

Ipoh, 16th December 2010: Two of the nation’s major rail operators have joined hands to bring Ipoh closer to KLIA and in so doing, offer greater convenience to air travellers living in the state.

Dr. Aminuddin Adnan, the President of KTM Berhad and Pn. Noormah Mohd Noor, the Chief Executive Officer of Express Rail Link (ERL) explained the collaboration to media and guests at the ETS-KLIA & ETS-LCCT product launch at the ETS Ipoh Station today.

Dr. Aminuddin said: “We are collaborating with ERL to provide a wider travel option for our customers. This partnership sees the two companies complementing each other’s train service and together, we aim to reach out to the markets outside Klang Valley. As both services converge at KL Sentral Station, the nation’s rail hub, we provide a new alternative to customers along our rail corridor.”

Added Puan Noormah: “We see ETS as a partner who shares similar values: on-time services and high speed travel, to give our mutual passengers a delightful travel experience. Ipoh, as the 3rd largest city in Malaysia, needs efficient access to KLIA and the LCCT, and we are pleased to provide this fast link to the country’s main airports together with ETS. Passengers can buy tickets to travel from Ipoh all the way to KLIA or LCCT, right here from the ETS counter. Together, we hope to bring Ipoh closer to KLIA (and LCCT)!”

With the ETS-KLIA and ETS-LCCT products, passengers can eliminate the time-consuming step of paying at separate machines or ticket counters. They can buy tickets for either KLIA or LCCT, at the one-stop ticketing point here in Ipoh. The ETS-KLIA promotional fares are RM65 (Adult) and RM34 (Child) while the ETS-LCCT promotional fares are RM42.50 (Adult) and RM25 (Child). These promotional fares are valid until 28th February 2011.

“As travelling time between Ipoh and KLIA or LCCT would now take less than 3 hours, this travel mode certainly offers the fastest option for those discerning air travellers. They now have the choice to travel in comfort and arrive on time for their flight departures. It is our hope that through positive word-of-mouth and experiences, our friends in the government and corporate sectors as well as the travel and hospitality industry will support this initiative,” said Dr. Aminuddin.

“As the trains operated by ETS and ERL run on electricity, there is no direct emission of pollutants, unlike a car or bus. And most importantly, the savings in carbon emissions, when compared to using cars, is substantial. By taking the train, passengers can contribute positively to the environment, further supporting our Go Green, Go LO-CO2 cause,” concluded Puan Noormah.

YB. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Syed Hamid Albar, the Chairman of Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (LPTC) was the guest of honour at the event.
