ERLSB To Save RM800,000 With Energy Saving Campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERLSB), owner and operator of the high-speed air-rail services KLIA Express and KLIA Transit, hopes to save RM800,000 from its newly launched Go Green, Go Lo-Co energy saving campaign by end of 2010.

Speaking to reporters here Wednesday, chief executive officer Noormah Mohd Noor said the Go Green Go Lo-Co was an outreach campaign that aimed to show Malaysians how they can lead a greener lifestyle with simple and pragmatic solutions.

She said as of 2008, the company's energy saving measures had resulted in an average savings of RM487,000 per annum.

Noormah added that as part of the company's Go Green, Go Lo-Co campaign, ERLSB would also stepping its green commitment by reducing, re-using and recycling products and materials used within its operations.

"By having this kind of campaign, we also hope to boost our market share from 17 percent currently," she said.

Officiating the event was the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui.

As an expansion of the campaign, ERLSB has included a new train-washing plant which will use 80 percent less chemicals, 90 percent less water and 70 percent less electricity, to result in a more environmentally friendly maintenance of its fleet of 12 high speed trains.

The plant will be built next month and it is expected to be completed in three weeks time, said ERL Maintenance Support Sdn Bhd's chief executive officer, Thomas Baake.

The train-washing plant will be operated by end of October, he said.
