ERL Launches “KLIA Transit to LCCT”

15 September 2009, Tuesday, Salak Tinggi: Starting tomorrow, KLIA Transit will connect air passengers to the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang. The announcement of this new service, “KLIA Transit to LCCT”, was officiated by the Honorable Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Abdul Rahim Bin Bakri, in the KLIA Transit Salak Tinggi station today.

Speaking at the launch, Puan Noormah Mohd Noor, Chief Executive Officer ERL, said,” the emergence of Malaysia’s own budget carrier, Air Asia, has brought phenomenal passenger growth to the LCCT.The budget travel model has also evolved in this short time, with budget travellers showing that they are willing to pay a little more for added comfort and convenience. We have watched this with great interest, and there is now clearly a demand for a better, safer, more comfortable way to travel to LCCT than the existing means of transportation”.

Passengers heading to the LCCT may now board the KLIA Transit fast train from KL Sentral, Bandar Tasik Selatan or Putrajaya & Cyberjaya to Salak Tinggi where they will be ferried directly to LCCT on a dedicated air-conditioned shuttle coach. For added convenience, a porter (free service) will be on hand to assist with luggage at Salak Tinggi.

Puan Noormah Mohd Noor also reiterated that opting to travel on the KLIA Transit, the environmental friendly fast train, will also contribute to the reduction of car trips to LCCT, which will translate into significant savings on carbon emissions.

Launching the new service, The Honorable Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Abdul Rahim Bin Bakri, said, “It is timely that ERL has put together this innovative “KLIA Transit to LCCT” service, answering the needs of discerning travellers who desire greater comfort and connectivity to LCCT. I have no doubt that the “KLIA Transit to LCCT” service will have a positive impact on LCCT. With this new service by ERL, and keeping pace with rising passenger expectations, I would therefore call on all the budget carriers operating in LCCT, namely Air Asia, Tiger Airways and Cebu Pacific, to promote this service to your passengers as part of the Ministry of Transport’s initiative to use public transportation”.

In conjunction with the launch, ERL is giving away 5,000 free tickets for the new “KLIA Transit to LCCT” service, to familiarise LCCT passengers with the habit of using the fast train. Passengers wishing to sample this service are kindly requested to log-on to ERL’s website www.KLIAekspres.com and register for a free ticket which is valid for travel effective from 01 October 2009.
