Supermodel Ai Tominaga Goes “LO-CO2” On KLIA Ekspres

Kuala Lumpur - Wednesday, 4 November 2009.

World-renown Japanese supermodel Ai Tominaga made heads turn when she flew into Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and travelled to the city using the high-speed KLIA Ekspres train.

The supermodel who was the star model of the Malaysia-International Fashion Week 2009 (M-IFW), was given a warm welcome in KLIA and at the KLIA Ekspres station in KL Sentral.  KLIA Ekspres was the M-IFW 2009 official airport transfer provider for Ms Tominaga, ten top models and thirty eight other foreign delegates.

M-IFW, in support of the environment, partnered with KLIA Ekspres to show the international audience that Malaysia could provide fast, comfortable transportation with the lowest environmental impact. Express Rail Link (ERL), the operator of the KLIA Ekspres, is currently running an educational initiative called “GO GREEN, GO LO-CO2” to reduce the amount of carbon emitted by vehicles travelling between KLIA and the city centre.

By carrying passengers on the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit’s fleet of energy-efficient trains, ERL has helped remove 3.5 million cars from the road every year. That has directly prevented 23,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year from polluting the atmosphere. In terms of energy reduction, that is comparable to leaving the television on for 12,726 years.

Speaking at the arrival of Ai Tominaga, Puan Noormah Mohd Noor, Chief Executive Officer of ERL said, “We are glad that fashion world celebrities like Ai Tominaga is in full support of our cause for a healthier environment. I must say that Ms. Tominaga’s decision to travel on the KLIA Ekspres speaks volumes on how people of the world are changing their lifestyles to live within our environmental means.

GO GREEN, GO LO-CO2, is all about sustainable development, and within our area of service - sustainable public transportation”, said Puan Noormah. “It is not just the train service. Our whole operations involves commitment to reduce, re-use and recycle products and material”, she added.
